Animal Acres to Air on PBS This Month!
 |
Don't miss seeing Animal Acres and our farmed animal friends with Huell Howser! Huell's popular public television series, "Visiting with Huell Howser", will air on KCET (Los Angeles' public television station) on Tuesday, June 23 at 7:30 p.m. (with a repeat broadcast scheduled for Wednesday, July 8 at 7:30 p.m.) Huell is well known for his visiting and "California Gold" television series, and this show will be his first visit to an animal sanctuary! Huell conducted inspiring and enlightening interviews with Actress Shelley Morrison and Animal Acres founder, Lorri Houston, and elicited memorable moments from the animals themselves - the show will undoubtedly open hearts and minds. Be sure to check your local KCET listing information (each local cable channel has their own channel numbers for KCET) and tune in for this special segment on Animal Acres. Our heartfelt thanks to Shelley Morrison for making this show possible, and our great appreciation to Huell Howser for his compassion for all animals, too!

Thrift Store Donations Needed
Clean out your closet and garages to help rescue suffering farmed animals. The Animal Acres NELLIES BARN THRIFT STORE urgently needs your donations NOW for busy summertime shopping hours. We particularly need kitchenware & household items, summer clothing, small furniture and other household items, books, CDs and jeans. For your convenience, you can drop items off at the Animal Acres sanctuary and visit our farmed animal friends at the same time! Thank you for your support.

Congratulations to Randy and Glenn
Animal Acres Members Randy Kasper and Glenn Lipson made their special day a special one for our farmed animal friends, too. The couple exchanged vows and blessings in our rose courtyard, surrounded by their loved ones, including the cows, pigs, chickens, and other sanctuary animals! It was a beautiful, traditional Jewish wedding ceremony, with the occasional sheep "baah" or chicken "cluck" in the background as the couple married. After the ceremony, guests mingled with the sanctuary animals, and then enjoyed a delicious vegan banquet catered by Veggie Vibes. Animal Acres is happy to host your wedding, birthday, or other event to make your special day as memorable and meaningful as it can be for you and your guests. Please click here for more information and to plan your special event at Animal Acres.

Activist of the Month
Gry Wesenberg
This month, we are honored to recognize Gry Wesenberg for her outstanding commitment to Animal Acres. Since Animal Acres opened its doors, Gry has been traveling all the way from the east coast to help us host our special events, especially our annual Gala, which requires enormous pre-event preparation. Using vacation time and frequent flyer miles, Gry joins us for 3 to 4 days before the Gala, helping us clean and paint, stuff goody bags, and any other task needed to put on a successful Gala. Gry also lends a helping hand from her home by maintaining our Facebook site, and this year, she is also helping us compile rescue videos to educate people about the cruel conditions farmed animals endure before arriving at our sanctuary. Gry is an amazing activist from coast to coast! Thank you Gry, for caring so much, and doing so much, for our farmed animal friends.

This Month's Featured Adoption - Frankie and Sam
Hundreds of horses are being abandoned, neglected, and starved to death because of the economic and foreclosure crisis. Sam and Frankie arrived at our shelter extremely malnourished and thin, and Frankie is suffering from a severe leg infection that is requiring extensive veterinary treatments. The two horses now have a large corral and straw-filled housing barn - and all the hay they can munch! Both Sam and Frankie have put on weight, and they are no longer skiddish around people. Sam and Frankie are in need of loving adoption sponsors (cause they eat like horses!) Please help us pay for their feed and veterinary care, and keep our doors open for many more needy animals. Please click here to adopt Frankie or Sam, or both!

Farm Chore Day & Picnic - Saturday, June 20th
It's summertime, and boy do we have the summer chores! Please help us care for the animals and maintain our beautiful sanctuary grounds and buildings by pitching in with farm chores. We need a BIG turnout for our special monthly FARM CHORE DAY -- volunteers are asked to arrive between 9 -11 a.m. and commit to a three hour chore task. Please RSVP to info@animalacres.org if you can join us, so we make sure we have enough vittles! Thank you.
