CALIFORNIA COUPLE RUNNING 156 MILES IN ANIMAL ACRES FUNDRAISER
All of us need to be reminded on occasion of the sacrifice farmed animals make every single day. Our cushy lives lack perspective, and sometimes what we need is a little inspiration. So to raise money for Animal Acres, Maya and Billy Restis will be competing in what TIME Magazine ranked as the 2nd toughest endurance race in the world, the Atacama Crossing in northern Chile. It is a six-day, 250 km (156 mile) foot race across the world's driest and highest altitude desert. Billy and Maya must complete a marathon each day for the first 4 days, a DOUBLE marathon on the 5th day, and a 10k on day six. They must carry all their own equipment and food for the entire race (over 25 pounds), which has altitudes between five and fifteen thousand feet. The purpose of competing in this punishing race is to show sacrificial love, and inspire others to grow Invisible Wings and give generously to the furry and feathered angels who make Animal Acres their home. Maya recently wrote:
"There are days when I struggle to want to go train. I have to remind myself the reasons for doing this. There's a lot of pain and suffering in the world for people AND animals and for many the outcome is bleak. ... I will deal with the pain my legs and hips will undoubtedly experience for all the abused and needlessly tortured animals in the world. ...I'm blessed with the life I have and I'm thankful for being able to see and not just look. Open your eyes to the world we live in, and discover the endless possibilities where you can help others in need of compassion. A compassion that does not discriminate, is not judgmental...and has no boundaries."
Please sponsor Maya and Billy as they endure what in so many ways seems unfathomable. They will run, and you can pledge!
