Emergency Rescue Fund - 2009
As a result of the poor economy and foreclosure crisis, Animal Acres is receiving more calls to assist abandoned and starving farmed animals, at the same time that donations are decreasing. As a result, we are in need of donor support to help pay for veterinary treatments and veterinary supplies (antibiotics, IV fluid, pain relievers, etc.) needed to rehabilitate animals needing critical care.
Animal Acres has the property, animal transport vehicles, staff, and dedicated volunteers to rescue farmed animals in need, however we are dependent on membership support to provide the funds needed for extensive emergency rescue efforts. Last year, veterinary treatments and veterinary supplies cost $24,000 - the direct result of rescuing 479 suffering farmed animals.
Animal Acres performs daily health care as required for the shelter residents, and staff caregivers are trained to perform basic health care needs including administering fluids, giving animals medications and pain relief, administering parasite treatments, and hoof/nail trimmings, and other basic care needs. Animal Acres needs to utilize veterinarians for more severe health problems which are common for incoming abused and neglected animals, such as broken bones, blood work for diagnosis, severe injuries, etc.
