HUNDREDS OF ANIMALS SEIZED FROM SLAUGHTERHOUSE NEED YOUR IMMEDIATE HELP

Animal Acres is providing temporary housing and emergency rescue care for hundreds of animals seized by humane officers from a California slaughterhouse.  The animals were being warehoused in nightmarish conditions. Animal Acres rescuers who assisted humane officers described the grisly scene…

We entered a dark cement building without windows. At least 50 sheep and goats were crammed into a tiny cement-floored pen, covered with urine and feces. Dozens of chickens were thrown into filthy, dilapidated cages. The stench was so powerful, we became nauseous and our eyes watered.  I couldn’t believe that animals were surviving in there — and we found that most were barely surviving.

For the past month, Animal Acres volunteers have worked around the clock to save the sheep who were suffering from severe respiratory diseases, eye and ear infections, leg damage, burns and malnourishment.  We are now caring for 51 sheep, and the numbers will continue to rise since most of the sheep are female and likely pregnant.

Animal Acres urgently needs people to help with this historic farmed animal rescue effort. The victims of the slaughterhouse who suffered so much misery and pain need YOU to end help end their nightmare. We need you to…

Be a Volunteer Caregiver

Caregivers are needed from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. daily to help clean barns and treatment areas, assist with health care and grooming, and feeding and watering the animals. Please leave a message on our voxmail or send an email with the dates and times you will be coming to the sanctuary to help. It is particularly helpful if you can commit to a set date and time each week and volunteer for a minimum 3- to 4-hour shift.

Sponsor a Sheep

We are spending approximately $150 PER DAY to provide feed, bedding and veterinary care for the sheep. Animal Acres is counting on people to help us care for the sheep by becoming a MONTHLY SPONSOR. The situation is critical — we simply do not have the funds to care for such a large number of sheep without the support of dedicated farm animal rescuers like YOU. Provide a Permanent Home

After several weeks of intensive veterinary treatments and nourishing food, most of the sheep are now ready for adoption. Currently, Animal Acres does not have long-term housing for the animals — and many of the sheep are pregnant. Permanent homes must be found for these slaughterhouse survivors.

If you are interested in adopting two (or more) of the sheep, please click here to complete an adoption application.
