Internship Program

Looking for an unforgettable experience? The Volunteer Internship Program at Farm Sanctuary's Animal Acres Shelter provides individuals with unique opportunities to advocate for and connect with farm animals, establish community with like-minded people, and acquire valuable knowledge of the various facets of animal protection.  Apply today and you too can contribute to this life-saving work.

Internships begin on the first of every month, with the minimum commitment being one month; two to three month internships are preferred. All applicants must be 18 years or older and committed to Farm Sanctuary's goals and programs. Intern space is limited; early application is recommended. Upon acceptance into the program, all interns are required to pay a $150 deposit. This deposit will be refunded upon completion of the internship.

The hard work and dedication of  interns is a vital part of our work. Your commitment helps us rescue, care for and advocate for suffering victims of food animal production every day.

HOUSING
Housing is offered at no charge for all Farm Sanctuary Animal Acres interns and includes shared bedroom, bathroom, and kitchen facilities. Interns are required to share in household cleaning chores and keep community areas clean for the comfort of everyone living together. We regret that we cannot accommodate companion animals.

MEALS
Interns are responsible for buying and preparing their own food. Weekly trips to the grocery store are provided for interns without vehicles.

SCHEDULES
Interns volunteer a full-time, 40-hour a week schedule, which may include weekends and holidays.

VEGAN LIVING
Out of respect for the animals and the work that Farm Sanctuary does, all staff and interns are required to be vegan while on sanctuary premises. Vegan living includes diet (no meat, dairy products, eggs, honey, or other animal byproducts), personal care items (cruelty-free and no animal byproducts), and clothing (no leather, silk or wool).

AVAILABILITY
Internships are available year round. Positions are filled on an ongoing basis as applications are received. Summer positions fill quickly, so if you're interested in these months, be sure to contact us well in advance. We will begin reviewing summer applications in January.
